“A simple enough pleasure, surely, to have breakfast alone with one’s husband, but how seldom married people in the midst of life achieve it.”
Anne Spencer
Here at Chiot’s Run breakfast is usually a piece of toast, a scone or something similar along with a cup of coffee. Once or twice a week we have bacon, eggs and potatoes, and once or twice a month we enjoy sourdough pancakes. In the winter we love soaked oat groats topped with all kinds of things like cinnamon, raisins and ginger. It’s kind of funny when you think about the fact that we have “breakfast” food, kind of weird really. I wonder if there’s something to that?
I could pretty much eat anything for breakfast, although I’m more of a savory eater than a sweet eater, so I prefer eggs, bacon, toast with butter. One thing I must have with my breakfast is coffee, no ifs ands or buts about that!
What are your breakfasts like? Sweet, savory, breakfasty, or normal food?
Pretty much nothing sweet, tho on occasion I do like sourdough pancakes with maple syrup. Sourdough english muffins with a fried egg, a slice of good cheese, and a bit of pastured ham…YUM! I think that is my favorite! Also, maybe a bit of diced sweet potatoes fried in a bit coconut oil till crispy.
Weekday breakfasts are pretty boring either cereal or eggs but weekend breakfasts are more varied – pastries, english muffins or crumpets, sausages or bacon, ham & cheese, French toast, pancakes…. But my absolute favourite breakfast is chickpea & potato curry served with fried flat bread (chole bhature) – yum!
Before we moved house, we used to buy it from a cafe nearby – they served it not just with puri but with sweet French toast – that was heavenly!
I cook up fried potatoes at least four mornings a week .. our youngest son inhales them … good country smoked slab bacon and farm fresh eggs. Not a sweet breakfast eater .. but will succumb to ableskivers and jam.
I make a big batch of scones every Sunday or Monday, then we eat them on the run all week. Which is kind of silly, really, because we both work out of the house! Where, exactly, are we running to?
