Today we’re celebrating guilty pleasures, you know all those things you love but you don’t talk much about. Some of them may be surprising, some of them may be things that are very familiar to you.
Mr Chiots and I love little local ice cream shops. Whenever we’re out driving around and we see a small one of a kind ice cream dive we have to stop for some ice cream. One day we stumbled upon this little gem about 30 min from our home. We try to make it back once or twice during the summer because their ice cream is fantastic, and the servings are HUGE!
Something that not too many people know about me is that I love to play computer games. Mr Chiots and I have been playing games together for years. We have a few games we play, but our favorite is Diablo II. It’s surprising to many people when I tell them I love to play and that I’m a level 35 barbarian and I wield a huge maul. This past Christmas day Mr Chiots and I played all day long.
It always surprises people when I tell them I love to listen to hip-hop music, especially when I run. I have an i-pod shuffle filled with all kinds of hip-hop, electronic dance music and club music. It keeps me running for miles.
Another one of my guilty pleasures is expensive vinegar. I’m very frugal most of the time, so spending $30 on a bottle of vinegar is definitely a guilty pleasure! I have collected some good ones, including a bottle of balsamic that was aged over 30 years. It’s so delicious, the only way I eat it is by the spoonful. I have drizzled a bit on strawberry ice cream though, YUM! I balance out my expensive vinegar obsession by making a lot of my own. I make several gallons of apple cider vinegar each year as well as wine vinegars. This past year I also make pear vinegar with the syrup from my canned pears. I do have way too many bottles, they take up an entire shelf in my pantry (this is probably 1/3 of my vinegar).
I have a few guilty pleasures too…although I must admit that I didn’t know you could pay $30 for a bottle of vinegar!
But $40/yard of fabric I can understand! Hello my name is Kim…I am a fabricaholic. This is the closet I designed as a linen closet upstairs in our house…it has never held a towel or a sheet. Just no room for such silly things here, or…
In the walk in closet in our spare bedroom. Yes, I have serious issues I realize…so I am not even going to show you my sewing room or the two closets in there, no that would be just too embarassing!
I also have a thing for books. I also will admit that we live to far out in the sticks and have too many kids to go to the library very easily, besides a library card is over $100/year. So I purchase books…lots of books. Which makes no financial sense at all. But there is just something about knowing that the exact book I need waiting upstairs for me just in case I need to look up something, or get an inspiration, or just for fun.
I love garden books, craft books, books on home construction, and woodworking books. Not to mention our homeschool books, classics, fantasy, sci-fi, biographies, autobiography, history novels…
My last guilty pleasure would have to be the few magazines I still get…Mother Earth News, Organic Gardening, and this,
This pretty much rocks my little crafting world!
What are some of your guilty pleasures (chocolate, long showers, ice cream, shoes)?
