Later this week, I have some guests arriving and am spending some time making sure the house is in tip-top shape as they are our first overnight guests in the new house. Cleaning at our house is anything but the toxic mess found in so many modern cleaners. If you’re new to cleaning with all natural cleaners consider the following:
Cream of Tartar– makes an excellent porcelain cleaner. Simply sprinkle some onto a damp cloth and rub any stained porcelain until clean, then rinse. This works great on toilets and porcelain sinks if you have hard water and get those orangey colors in the pores.
Vinegar – Vinegar is a great all-around cleaning product in my experience. Diluted it makes a great cleaner for windows, hardwood floors, bath tubs, showers, and much more. White distilled vinegar seems to the best vinegar for cleaning and is an extremely frugal choice.
Baking Soda– Baking soda is a great way to deodorize carpets. Sprinkle some on the carpet, allow to sit for a while then vacuum as usual.
Vegetable Oil – 1/4 Cup vegetable oil combined with 1 teaspoon lemon juice makes a great all natural wood polish for all your furniture.
How about you, how do you clean your home naturally?
I have switched to using Vinegar and/ or Ammonia for most of my cleaning.
I noticed my floors stay cleaner longer too!! I think it is because there is no chemical residue for all the dirt to get trapped in.

I use a book called clean house clean planet that has homemade recipes for almost everything…using all natural ingr. like vinegar, baking soda and the like. I have even made a wood furniture polish from this book!
I use most of these in my natural cleaning too , except for the cream of tartar. I will try it in my bathroom , our water has a little hardness to it.
I made a furniture polish from olive oil and white pine needles , love it. I just posted about it on my blog yesterday , it has wonderful medicinal properties too.

We use baking soda, vinegar, lemons, some EO’s (like Tea Tree Oil and Lavender in small amounts) and just hot soapy water (Dr. Bronners). I haven’t missed using or buying cleaners in a long time. Plus I never worry if my kids are close and about them stepping or touching something I just cleaned.
I got this from Rhonda @ down–to–earth: vinegar and baking soda to clean the bathroom including the toilet – I love mixing these two in the toilet and watching it foam up. Kind of like a mini volcano! =)
Last nite I used Rhonda’s ‘shampoo’ and my hair was wonderful this morning; 1 tbsp backing soda disolved in 1C water. Mmmm. Love my hair!
Next I will try the furniture policy of EVOO and I cannot remember the other item. Will have to look it up when I get home.
