The carbon dioxide in the water is heavier than air and displaces oxygen which suffocates the queen and the other ants. The whole colony will be dead within about two days. Each mound must be treated individually and a one liter bottle of club soda will kill 2 to 3 mounds.

I like the fork plant markers too. Last spring I did stamped spoons with a friend – in fact it was one of the same friends that was in on making these pots in this post

A length of wire from an old wire clothes hanger makes the stake. (Punch a hole in the aluminum tag with a nail or hole punch.)
